Do you ever notice the way you greet your wife every morning? In what tone of voice do you send your kids to school? Are you genuinely interested when you ask your colleagues how was their weekend on a cold Monday morning? Think about that for a second.
You might think: ”Well, that’s just small talk, it’s not that important.” One 2-minute conversation might not be, but let me ask you this. How many times per week do you greet your wife in the morning? Seven. And let’s say your little ‘small talk’ lasts for about
5-ish minutes. So, let me get this straight. You spend 30 minutes every single week, greeting your wife as if that’s the most monothon thing on the planet? And that’s just one of many, many ‘small talk’ conversations that occur in your everyday life.
So yeah, not being your greatest self in one 5-minute conversation is fine, but are you willing to do the math for all the other ones?
You’d be left with a lifetime of monotone conversations that will just make you feel even worse. And me? I don’t have that kind of time. I shift my energy to more positive outcomes, both for myself, and everybody around me.
